HOW IT WORKS

From canvas to usable file

  1. 1Choose exact start and end colors, then set a whole-number gradient length from 2 to 16 steps.
  2. 2Review the linear-light sRGB gradient and the block selected for each step after CIELAB conversion by minimum CIEDE2000 color distance.
  3. 3Copy the ordered block list or export a PNG swatch reference containing the generated gradient and matched palette.

FAQ

FAQ

How does the generator match colors to blocks?

It interpolates the requested gradient in linear-light sRGB, converts each result and documented palette color to CIELAB, calculates every CIEDE2000 distance, and deterministically selects the smallest one.

Why use CIELAB and CIEDE2000 instead of RGB distance?

Equal numeric changes in RGB do not represent equal visible changes. CIELAB and CIEDE2000 account more closely for perceived lightness, chroma, and hue differences.

Can the same block appear more than once?

Yes. Neighboring gradient colors can have the same nearest palette entry. The generator preserves those exact matches instead of replacing duplicates with less accurate blocks.

Is the palette identical in every Minecraft edition and resource pack?

No. The page uses its displayed, documented Minecraft-inspired reference colors. In-game lighting, biome tint, edition changes, shaders, and resource packs can change visible color.

What can I export from the block palette generator?

Copy the ordered block names as text or export a PNG swatch reference. Color calculation and both outputs stay local to your browser.
